Mulanay is municipality situated in the Bondoc Peninsula area of Quezon Province. Legend relates that Mulanay derived its name from the Tagalog word Malunay which means "plenty of lunay." Lunay is vernacular term of pili waz which is abundant in the area.
The evangelization of Mulanay by the Franciscan missionaries was in 1,000 while its civil foundation as municipality was effected in 1745 thru the approval of the king Spain during the Spanish regime. Mulanay was composed of the municipal territories of San Narciso, Catanauan, and San Andres which was has big as the province of Bataan.
The populate of Mulanay is compose of different ethnic groups like Tagalog, Visaya, Bicolano. Although they have some dissimilarity they manage to live harmoniously with love, respect, and understanding that serve as great factors towards valuable changes for progress. Base on the National Statistics Office Census current year 2007, it has a population of 48,538. The first town head of Mulanay during the Spanish regime was Alcalde Mayor Eutaquio Manlangit. While the first town mayor, American occupation was Mayor Atanacio Ojeda. The municilaity had been under twenty six mayors from Spanish regimeup to the recent period. The incumvent mayor is Hon. Prudencio M. Maxino, Jr.
At present, Mulanay is compose of twwenty eight (28) barangay's four of which compose the poblacion. The municipality is an agricultural town where from crops like coconut, garlic, bananas, rice, corn, peanuts, mango, ginger, squash, and other vegetables are abundantly harvested. Mulanay lies along the coast of Tayabas Bay on abundant fishing ground.
