Mulanay Elementary School was founded 1919-1920. It started with wood bamboo and pawid as room for learners. Previous to that, houses of Mr. Donato Tesalona, Edran and Rosales family served as temporary classroom while the building made of light materials was under construction.
The school was pioneered by Mr. Domingo Garcia, Sr., who was the first principal-in-charge of the district. The noble act was followed by Mr. Andres Flores, in served as principal-in-charge. Among the teachers who smooth the progress of the school were Mr. Zoilo Garcia, Mrs. Trining and the Music teacher Garcia Allare together with Mr. Domingo De Luna, ex-mayor Mauro Bariata, Ignacio Ramos of Catanauan, Mrs. Teodora Fuerte, Mrs. Teodora Tesalona, Mr. Recardo Peñaranda of San Francisco, Mr. Casimiro Bariata, Mr. Gregorio YUmul of Lopez, Mr. Jose Roces, and Ms. Guadalupe Telada.
Mr. Fortunato Nañadiego was then the municipal president (municipal mayor) and also helped out to make such educational institution possible.
After Mr. Garcia and Mr. Flores the following persons served as principals in the district: Mr. Andres Contillano of Lopez, Mr. Origins of Gen. Luna, Mr. Primo Magallanes of Lucena, Mr. Eleuterio Luna, Felimon Bautista (1985), Fernando P. Ambas, Efren Lazano, (1988) Herninio Tiña (1989) Mrs. Erlinda Jader (1992), Carlito C. Sonbise (1994), Manuel F. Fetalco (1998), and Dr. Irene Olveda (2005 up to date).
Mulanay District has been under the following district supervision/incharge, to wit: Mr. Rito Delos Santos, Mr. Leovigildo Daza, Mr. Eleuterio Luna and Mr. Bienvenido Nacorda. As of 1984, Ms. Perla T. Luna (1986) was the district supervisor followed by Mr. Lazaro Averilla (1987-1990), Editha Velenia (1991), Mrs. Julieta U. Reyes (1992), Dr. Clarita M. Francisco (1993), Mr. Manuel F. Fetalco (District OIC, 2000) and Mrs. Julieta U. Reyes (2001 up to date.)
Due to the rapid increase of population, the following schools were opened: Patabog 1945, Pakiing 1962, Malibago 1979, Sta. Rosa 1980, San Pedro 1982, Matataja, Magsaysay and Anonang 1986, Sumagonsong 1987, Bolo 1988 and of 2000 Buenavista and Latangan were openeds.
In 1970, Mulanay District has 1245 pupils enrolled. And now, as 2004 the district is catering the needs of 7,776 children of Mulanay and its neighboring town.
Mulanay district has now almost eight decades of competitive struggle. Its goal striving for relevant and quality education that will respond to the needs and challenges fo the time. The district is not only committed to help promote progress in this once somnolent municipalitybut to become forever partner of development envisioned by its people and local leaders headed by Hon. Prudencio M. Mxino.
